Music and Art
“Next to the Word of God, the noble art of music is the greatest treasure in the world.” – Martin Luther.
The Bible is full of all kinds of musical references, from the book of Psalms to the instructions on using music in everyday life. It’s a way to learn, to communicate, and to bring praise & glory to God. At Zion we believe music is a very important part of our education. In our younger music classes we sing, dance, giggle, hop, travel on imaginative adventures, play instruments, share ideas, read stories, celebrate the uniqueness of each child, and more! The classes are lead through music and movement activities with proven developmental benefits that include boosting early literacy and language abilities, social-emotional skills, cognitive development, and gives children many opportunities to practice fine- and gross-motor skills in a fun, loving community. Our music classes intentionally include resources including the music, story, and activities as well as the developmental insights behind them. We know that connecting the classroom learning to those “everyday” moments supports a parent’s role as a child’s first and best teacher. In addition, the repetition throughout the week strengthens the neural connections in a child’s brain and gives children more confidence in the classroom. Opportunities to continue this development include: singing at our Zion Lutheran Church services monthly throughout the school year. We also offer exciting music classes in the summer through our daycare programs.
Our elementary music classes build on this foundation and include: basic piano, recorder, hand bells, percussion, puppet ministry, and choir instructions. We will also have the opportunity to sing monthly in our Zion Lutheran Church services & at the local assisted living homes.
In Middle School we offer extensive Band & Jr Choir classes. Music and worship ministry is very important in Zion. In addition we will perform as a group & individually. We will perform for Zion Lutheran Church services, assisted living home, & and other local areas. In the spring we will compete in the adjudicated Lutheran Music Festival for Bay, Thumb, & Saginaw Counties.
Private vocal and piano lesson are available from our Music Administrator. Please contact Mrs. Upton: bupton@zionbaycity.org for more information.
